Rehab Internships

Canine Fitness Zone is committed to providing clients and patients with evidence-based physical therapy treatments in a calm and relaxing environment using only gentle-handling techniques. One of CFZ's goals is to expand the "Quality Care with a Gentle Touch" model into the rehabilitation profession by providing CCRT internships. Internships emphasize: 1) clinical reasoning (please see LEH Clinical Reasoning Diagram in Supplemental Materials) including development of the problem list and treatment planning; 2) manual assessment and treatment skills (please review basic anatomy palpation prior to internship); 3) physiological reasoning supporting use of modalities (we use only a class IIIb laser for accurate dosing) and modality implementation; 4) physiological reasoning behind therapeutic exercise decisions and HEP implementation; 5) relationship building with the patient (at CFZ the animal is always right and they are never forced to receive an assessment or treatment).

During a CFZ internship the CCRT will receive:

Gentle Handling Techniques
An independent caseload of animals (always assessed and treated under direct supervision of the mentor)
Assessment of sports, neuro, ortho, and geriatric patients
In-hospital veterinary communication
Plan of care development for each assessment
Implementation of plan of care
Potential conditioning seminar (see Seminar Page if you would like to schedule your internship around a seminar)
Potential orthopedic consult and/or surgery
